La campagne UNISSONS-NOUS POUR LES ENFANTS CONTRE LE SIDA, dans la région Amérique latine et Caraïbes, a été lancée aujourd'hui le 11 novembre 2005. La campagne a pour objectif d'attirer l'attention de la communauté internationale sur les effets dévastateurs du SIDA sur les enfants et les jeunes de la région.
Les représentants de l'UNICEF, de l'ONUSIDA et d'autres partenaires ont averti que les efforts actuellement entrepris en Amérique latine étaient encore insuffisants pour arrêter la propagation de la maladie.
« Après vingt-cinq ans de pandémie, le SIDA continue à déchirer les familles et les communautés, laissant derrière lui 15 millions d'orphelins et assombrissant l'avenir de ces pays », a déclaré le Directeur exécutif d'ONUSIDA, Peter Piot. « Pour que les pays puissent se développer, nous devons placer les enfants au premier rang. Ils doivent donc constituer une priorité majeure pour l'attribution et l'utilisation des ressources ».

France Amérique Latine a été fondée en 1970, par un groupe de militants de divers horizons politiques, syndicalistes et chrétiens, dans le but de faire connaître à l'opinion publique française les batailles du Chili de l'Unité Populaire ainsi que les différentes formes de répression mises en place par les gouvernements militaires du Cône Sud: Argentine, Brésil, Paraguay, Uruguay. Elle a trois objectifs: découverte, amitié, solidarité. C'est depuis sa naissance une association de Défense des Droits de l'Homme, en droit français association loi de 1901 à but non lucratif. Moteur de la solidarité avec le Chili après 1973, elle s'engage aux côtés des Sandinistes au Nicaragua en 1979, et du Front Farabundo Marti de Libération Nationale au Salvador, soutient le gouvernement du P. Aristide en Haïti. Elle acquiert donc un rayon d'action continental réel qui se manifeste aujourd'hui dans son appui à la lutte pour la paix en Colombie, contre l'impunité notamment en Argentine, pour les droits des Indigènes du Chiapas au Mexique, pour les revendications des Sans-terre au Brésil, pour la souveraineté de Cuba etc.
